MXGP Qualifying abandoned in Turkey

Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP's Romain Febvre and Mitch Evans will go to the gate fourth and fifth at Afyonkarahisar after adverse weather caused Qualifying for tomorrow's Turkish round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship to be abandoned.

In stark contrast to the sunshine and temperatures in the mid-thirties centigrade throughout the week grey skies greeted teams and riders on Saturday morning and as the start-time for Qualifying of the premier off-road series approached heavy rain and strong winds swept over the facility in the highlands of Anatolia. It was decided that the conditions were too dangerous to risk racing and start positions for Sunday's GP motos will be based on lap times set earlier in the day during Timed Practice in which Romain Febvre had set fourth-fastest time and Mitch Evans was fifth-fastest.

Earlier in the afternoon Kevin Horgmo claimed sixth for F&H Kawasaki Racing Team in Qualifying for the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship round as he rebounded strongly from eleventh after a first-lap incident had pushed him downfield when he was challenging for fifth. Teammate David Braceras pushed forward impressively during the first half of the race to advance from eighth to fifth but the Spanish youngster lost his rhythm as rain began to fall during the second half of the race to finish eighth.

BUD Racing Kawasaki's Quentin Marc Prugnières and Benjamin Garib each faced a tough first moto in the Turkish round of the FIM European EMX250 Championship after starting outside the top-six but they enlivened the last lap of the race as they passed and re-passed each other several times before the Chilean got the final shout for sixth.
