Roan van de Moosdijk fifth in Italy

Roan van de Moosdijk of the F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team claimed fifth place in round eight of the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship at Faenza in northern Italy to advance to fifth in the series.

The Dutch teenager proved his ability to master all types of track as he claimed his second pole in five days – and his third of the season – during morning Qualifying with a perfect lap and rode two solid races in stifling heat to finish fifth overall from sixth- and fourth-placed moto finishes. Displaying the necessary respect for the demanding track which would punish the slightest error he emerged sixth from the tricky first turn in race one and, despite temporarily losing one position as he ran off line on the slick surface, he regained the spot before the finish. Race two saw him fifth on lap one; advancing to fourth on the fifth of sixteen laps, and setting consistent lap times to the chequered flag, he maintained that position to finish just fourteen seconds down on the race-long leader. Securing fifth overall on the day, he has also advanced to fifth in the series points standings.

Roan van de Moosdijk: “Finally two consistent motos here! I got a decent start in the first moto but I didn’t find a good feeling after crashing on the first lap two times in a row here and I just wanted to finish. I felt better coming into the second moto; my riding was smoother and in the beginning I almost passed for third. In the end I am happy with two good starts and two consistent motos. I think people know I am fast after my third pole position; now I just need to show that in the races! The whole team is now looking forward to Mantova. “

Van de Moosdijk was the only member of the team at the start for the third GP in eight days around the rapid Monte Coralli track as the F&H management made the conscious decision on Saturday to withdraw both Mathys Boisrame and Mikkel Haarup in the wake of the crashes each had suffered at the previous round on Wednesday. Team coach Marc de Reuver illuminated: “They are both quite beaten-up; no broken bones but a mix of everything. We are looking at the bigger picture; neither of them is racing for the title this year and we want to finish the season well with all of the team healthy. It’s my job as a trainer not just to get results but to keep them safe; I don’t want to put them in jeopardy. All the boys push really hard always and on this track you cannot afford any mistakes, particularly if you are not 100%. We are looking at Mantova and Lommel and it is better to skip one race to be ready for those rather than risk a setback here; if they made another crash here we would be further back and I want to finish the year good with them. “

The series now takes one week off before returning to Italy on Sunday September 26 for the first of three GPs at Mantova.
