Romain Febvre tops Qualifying in Trentino

Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP's Romain Febvre dominated Qualifying in the fourth round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship at Pietramurata in the north Italian province of Trentino.

KX450-SR power and traction secured a clearcut holeshot and the Frenchman, riding immaculately around the slick switchback in the shadows of the Dolomites, sprinted relentlessly ever-further clear to win easing up by eight seconds, having set the six fastest laps of the race. The ten championship points earnt by his first victory of the 2023 GP campaign also reduces his deficit to the series leader to just seventeen points heading into tomorrow's two GP motos.

Romain Febvre: « It’s always nice to have such a good race, and for sure this one was easier as I could take the holeshot and could then choose my lines. I found my lines easily and after a few laps I saw that I was increasing the gap to my rivals; each lap I was faster and my rhythm was very good so during the race I told myself ‘this one is for me’ and I did it! Tomorrow will be another day but my feeling has always been good on this track and the bike was working perfectly again this weekend. I felt a little sick last weekend so I had a quiet week, concentrating mainly on cycling to recover and be fit for this GP."

F&H Kawasaki Racing Team's Kevin Horgmo qualified ninth for tomorrow's fourth round of the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship. The Norwegian had posted fifth-fastest time in practice but didn't get a clean drive out of the gate in the Qualifying race to emerge twelfth from turn one. Within two laps he had advanced to eighth but succumbed to an attack three laps from the close to finish ninth.

Kevin Horgmo: "I felt good in timed practice for fifth but I didn't get a good start in Qualifying. My first laps were strong but the track is demanding and I lost my rhythm a little towards the end of the race. I just need to find a better feeling for the track tomorrow."

Teammate David Braceras continued to consolidate during his rookie GP season to race fifteenth throughout almost the entire Qualifying race.

Big Van World MTX Kawasaki’s Jack Chambers had a tough start to Qualifying as he fell at turn one but ripped through the pack to already advance to seventeenth by the completion of the opening lap. A slip on lap two pushed him to twentieth but he he was again seventeenth by mid-moto before surrendering a couple of positions in the closing stages to finish nineteenth.

BUD Racing Kawasaki's Quentin Marc Prugnières had little joy in the second round of the FIM European EMX250 Championship. The French youngster fractured his right collarbone two weeks ago but was determined to try to defend his second place in the series standings. A fall in traffic at turn two of this weekend's opening moto left him with a mountain to climb but he gritted his teeth to scythe through the pack to nineteenth by the end of the half-hour race.
