Indonesia Next Up For WorldSSP Challengers

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team-mates Can Öncü and Yari Montella are on their way to the penultimate FIM Supersport World Championship round at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, to be held between 11-13 November.

Öncü will be out to win his first WorldSSP race, having scored five podium finishes this season and eight in total. This is Can’s third full season in WorldSSP and his second in the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team.

The aim for Montella is to score his first podium in his rookie season, having finished fourth in two individual races, at Estoril and Donington Park.

Unlike Can, Yari has not raced at Mandalika before, so he will spend Friday learning the circuit as well as trying to set the fastest possible lap times.

Öncü is in third place overall in the championship, with a cushion of 26 points to the rider in fourth place. Montella eighth currently, 13 points behind seventh place.

After the Mandalika round there will be a swift change of location for all as the season finale will take place at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Australia, between 18-20 November.

Can Öncü, stated: “I’m pleased to return to Indonesia as it is a track I really enjoyed competing at last year. It’s not an easy one to interpret, but it has some very fast sectors where I felt really comfortable. With only two rounds to go until the end of the season, my aim is of course to give it my all and score strong results so that I can retain third place in the championship.”

Yari Montella, stated: “Another brand-new track to learn. At the other tracks I didn’t know I got to grips with them quite quickly, finding the right lines and the right speed. So I hope the same applies at Mandalika. I’m sure we can do well. The goal will be to work effectively with the team and push for the podium. That would be the perfect reward for all the work the team and I have done this year.”

Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) will be riding at a circuit new to him in his rookie season. He is currently 12th in the championship with two rounds to go.

Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo Racing by Puccetti Kawasaki) returns for the team he first raced with at the recent Argentinian round of the championship. This is also his rookie season in WorldSSP, having ridden a Ninja ZX-6R for the Prodina Racing Team at the European rounds.
