The girl from Saint Denis on the outskirts of Paris had put her Team 114 Kawasaki in second place on the grid after timed practice, but left no doubts about her intentions when the gate dropped for the opening moto on Saturday afternoon and she burst into an immediate lead, moving further and further clear until she had a ten second lead which she led to the chequered flag. Determined to repeat the performance on Sunday morning Livia again shot from the gate side by side with fellow Kawasaki racer Meghan Rutledge and the duo in green enjoyed an enthralling battle until Livia eventually moved into a narrow lead on lap three and held it to the chequered flag. After a 50 point maximum score Livia is now just 14 points shy of the series leader despite some disappointments earlier in the year and, with two rounds and four motos remaining, she has revived her hopes of winning the title which she first held for Kawasaki in 2008.
The maximum score also ensures that Kawasaki has extended its lead in the manufacturers' world championship to twenty points after victory in six of the eight races held so far.
Livia Lancelot: “It was a perfect weekend for me. I didn't set the fastest lap in any of the practice sessions but I won both races and that was the goal. We worked hard with the team and Bruno Losito, who has been my physical trainer for the last month, and everything went perfectly. For sure it was harder for me in the second race as Meghan was never very far behind me, but it was great for the public as the race was intense all the way to the finish line. I think that I’m definitively back to a good level; for sure it cost me some energy to create the team and also to recover from my knee injury, but I’m sure that I will be even stronger in the coming weeks. It was great to have so much support from the fans, and I’m pleased to offer them, and all my partners, this GP win.”
