Steven made a great start to the weekend in his home GP around the glorious hillside track at Saint Jean D'Angely, some 30 kilometres from the Atlantic coastline, as he made the second fastest lap in timed practice and set the fastest lap during the qualification race as he recovered to fourth place from a poor start. On a track where it was difficult to make a pass stick the start was of great importance and Steven narrowly missed out on the holeshot in each GP moto as he rounded turn one in fourth place. His scoring potential was further hampered on the opening lap of racing when he stalled the engine and was forced to fight his way back through the pack from twentieth position, eventually finishing sixth. Avoiding mistakes on the opening lap of race two, Steven was in a four rider breakaway at the head of the pack, but his hopes of advancing to the head of the group during the final laps were spoilt by the exertions of the opening race which left him physically drained during the vital closing laps of race two and meant that he had to settle for fourth place. The combined results of both motos gave him fourth overall on the day and the thirty-three-point haul has seen him advance to sixth place in the championship.
Steven Frossard: “In the first race my start was pretty good and I was in the top five, but I stalled the engine and that put me down to twentieth at the end of the first lap; it’s pretty difficult to pass on this track and I spent some energy to come back to sixth. My second start was also good and there were four of us at the front, but I didn't have enough energy left after that tough first race to pass Van Horebeek and Desalle. I feel better and better; I have the speed and, as we could see today, physically I have a good condition. Now I just need to get a podium. The atmosphere was incredible here for the French GP; when we are at the start we feel the crowd behind us.”
